COBOL Comment Generator

10/3/1999 - New Version Released! CCG v1.5 is ready for downloading!

Are you tired of coding all of those bulky, time consuming comment blocks? The ones that look like this:

Have you ever wish that there was a fast, easy to use solution to this onerous task?

Now there is!

Adkins Software Design is proud to present their newest creation, the COBOL Comment Generator v1.5!

What exactly can this wondrous program do, you may ask? It can create a COBOL comment block in about 10 seconds! All you have to do is enter the text that you want shown in the block, and click one single button, and presto! You have your entire block, without any time wasted! Intrigued? Read on my friend, read on!

Why should I use it?

Wrong question. What you should be asking is, why shouldn't I use it?

Commenting a program can take up to 70% of the authors time! 70%! Most of this time is spent, in COBOL anyhow, typing out those horrible comment blocks. Each block can take up to 2 minutes to type in manually, with COBOL Comment Generator you can do it in 10 seconds! It will save you hours of time which you could otherwise devote to better activities, like watching TV!

What can it do?

Well, you can make a comment block of any width, made out of ANY character (see below for some examples), and with any amount of blank spaces in front of it. These 3 settings can be reset to the COBOL defaults with the click of a button!

New in version 1.2, you can make comment blocks with any amount of lines! Instead of just the one liners that could be created in 1.0, you now have the option of making your comments as long as you want. Here are a few examples:

Please note that CCG v1.5 cannot make comment blocks in any color than black, the colors in this picture were merely added for effect.

All of the program's settings are automatically saved when you exit, so you never have to change them!

It has an automatically copy comment block to clipboard option, which, when the "create" button is pushed, will automatically copy that block to the clipboard, for easy pasting!

Since COBOL code is all in caps, there is a "Always enter comment text in caps" option, which forces the comment text to capital letters, even if the caps lock is OFF.

What's new in v1.5?

The functionality of the program hasn't changed, I just gave it a cool new look. Take a look at these screen shots:

Where can I get it?

I decided to just let everyone have CCG for free, so here's a link to the fully functional v1.5:
